Overview of Bloom's Taxonomy

Bloom's taxonomy was originally created by Benjamin Bloom in 1956 to help teacher set objectives while teaching the students. In the original one the  six categories are named; knowledge,  comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation. These names and order was revised and developed in 2001. The changes include changing the names from nouns to verb form in order to describe the different levels and the changing of the top two levels.

The revised version is described by using action verbs to make it more easier for teachers to understand the levels and to use each stage. Because it simply provides an order for cognitive behaviors, it can be applied to almost anything. They can be used for assessment design, lesson planning, personalizing and differentiating learning.
